Textiles are woven to serve specific functions. They are used for utilitarian purposes, and more importantly for rituals. In weaving communities, there are also swatches woven on the loom to serve as samples or templates for weavers as a record of their new designs and patterns. This includes ikat banners, swatches of varying sizes, and yardages.
