RESEARCH DATA:

Stripes designs in textiles are widespread among weaving communities in Luzon Cordillera (Araneta and Lim, 2014). The Ga’dang and Kalinga are prominent for their use of red and yellow color palettes for their blankets and skirts. – the former embellish their textiles with multiple beadworks, while the latter use hanging shells and embroideries of varying colors. This yardage is composed of yellow stripes of different thickness – the outhermost parts are lined with thick lines, enclosing the thinner lines, and the prominent three-parallel lines dominating at the center. Reminiscent of the stripes designs of Ga’dang and Kalinga called the la-lad (San Agustin, 2007) and gililing (Ngao-i, 2022), this textile is an inspired variation by Patis Tesoro of these groups’ weaving traditions.
