Ceramics

In the Cordillera, local rice wine was stored in ceramic jars. Ceramic jars were considered high status symbols, a part of family heirlooms, and were usually used in rituals. As evident from the dragon motifs incorporated on jars’ surfaces, some acquired porcelain jars can be traced back overseas, particularly from China and neighboring Southeast Asian territories. Local artisans also found ways to localize the jars by adding some traditional basketwork to the rim covers, framings, bases, and handles. These basketworks served some practical functions and also added to the overall aesthetics of the objects.
