RESEARCH DATA:

The horse motif is one of the most distinctive elements found on Itneg textiles. Horses are associated with their god of agriculture, Indadaya (Respicio, 2000), who, according to Itneg belief, owns a horse that he uses to travel from the eastern skies, where he resides, to visit the earth. This textile from the collection is a brocade-woven pinilian sample swatch designed by Patis Tesoro, featuring horses and diamond-shaped star-like motifs, as well as the embroidered initials of the Katutubong Filipino Foundation, “K.F.F.”
