RESEARCH DATA:

This textile from the collection, designed by Patis Tesoro, is inspired by the pinilian weaving techniques of Tinguian weavers from Abra. Pinilian textiles are distinguished by their diverse motifs and designs, as well as the embossed or raised relief that resembles embroidery (Pastor-Roces, 1991). Traditionally, textiles produced using these weaving techniques are utilized as blanket panels. However, modern interpretations have expanded their use to include table runners, wall decor, and clothing accents or materials, among other items. This particular textile is an example of a yardage woven using pinilian techniques, featuring contemporary, innovative motifs such as diamonds, V-shaped, and X-shaped patterns, which are reminiscent of traditional motifs found in Cordillera textiles.
