RESEARCH DATA:

The striped textile designs are common and well-known in Northern Luzon, woven by local weavers. This textile from the collection, designed by Patis Tesoro, draws inspiration from stripe designs and features embroidery motifs typical of those crafted by Tinguian embroiderers and weavers in Abra. The main embroidery motifs used and modified in this textile are reminiscent of traditional hand-like or rice plant-like motifs commonly found on Tinguian textiles. Additionally, there is also simple zigzag stitchings near the warp ends that decorates the textile and secures its weft threads from unraveling. These motifs may be deconstructed versions of those found in kinammayan skirts, which are diamond-twilled indigo wrap-around skirts traditionally embellished with embroidery (Pastor-Roces, 1991).
