RESEARCH DATA:
This textile from the collection features a woven abaca base cloth in reddish or magenta tones. Along the central seam are intricate beadwork and stitching. A high-status sonnod is made of three fabric panels stitched together called the ine or ina (“mother” piece) and features the most detailed designs. Found in the middle are the fern- and triangle-like forms. The beadwork is highly characteristic of Bagobo ornamentation, using glass beads in white, yellow, blue, and pink. This type of beadwork is also seen on other Bagobo garments, including blouses and trousers.
