RESEARCH DATA:

The salapnot may be used either as a loincloth or a belt, with some variants distinctly dyed in indigo, or malatayum, to signify “peace-time”. Men were encouraged to wear loincloths of this color to help prevent bloodshed and beheading (Salvador-Amores, 2019). With a plain weave as its base, the textile showcases diamond and triangle-like motifs in supplementary weft. The bottom section also features small kuko-palay (fingernails and rice stalks) embroideries in white threads.
