RESEARCH DATA:

This textile, a wrap-around skirt, comes from Sabangan, Mountain Province, and is locally called ‘pingay’ or ‘tapis’. The skirt features red and white as its primary colors, with accents of repeating spear-like motifs in gray, green, and yellow, along with bands of white stripes. Green and yellow embroidered joinery adds further detail. Additional motifs, such as shield-like, rooster-like, and snake-like designs, are woven onto the textile strip stitched along the warp edges of the skirt, along with other figurative patterns. The warp edges are finished with hems and tassel fringes in red, green, and yellow.
