RESEARCH DATA:

Interactions between different nearby communities and groups have long been a common human behavior, where cultures and traditions are shared and influence each other in ways that are reflected in the material aspects of life. One example of this interaction is the wrap-around skirt from the Isinay people of Nueva Vizcaya. The base textile, featuring narrow indigo-dyed stripes, was woven by the Isinay, with the embroidery crafted by the Bugkalot of Nueva Vizcaya. The embroidery features floral patterns, swirling forms, and droplet-like shapes resembling vines and leaves, as well as geometric patterns on the borders. These elements are purposefully embroidered to form bands of design along the warp edges and the bottom weft of the skirt.
