RESEARCH DATA:
This wrap-around skirt is a variation of the Ifugao ginallit, binnnalit, or pfinalet. Unlike the raditional black variant, this piece features a royal blue base, similar to indigo, and is accented with red and white stripes—a variety preferred in areas of Mayoyao (Martin et al., 2020). The skirt consists of three panels, called intinlu (meaning “in threes”), joined by red, black, and yellow embroidery named takdog (Martin et. al., 2020). The same embroidery appears along its warp edges, although half the size. It is widely used among the Ifugao as a daily wear or for community events, distinguished by its heavily striped design and one or two bands of embroidery, which serve both functional and decorative purposes to the skirt (Martin et al., 2020).
