RESEARCH DATA:
This loincloth is a creative innovation by Patis Tesoro of the baal or loincloth, with elements that echo the traditional striped design (kantarinis) found in blankets within the community; a shared weaving design between Abra and Ilocos (Respicio, 2015). It features red and indigo vertical stripes that run the entire length of the cloth, and has embroideries on its side edges and near both its bottom ends. The embroidery design on the sides and bottommost parts are called the sinan-ramay or finger-like design, which is a palmate-like shape resembling a finger spread. Meanwhile, the asterisk-like forms in bright red threads represent stars or the sinan-bituen, and the frog-like forms in white threads are called dancing frogs and sinan-tokak in the local language.
