RESEARCH DATA:

This white baal or loincloth is a creative innovation by Patis Tesoro, drawing from various elements and motifs found in Itneg or Tinguian textiles. It features nine rows of brocade-woven X-like patterns placed vertically, along with knotted tassels twisted at both ends. These X-like motifs behave like tile patterns, displaying another shape when arranged repeatedly. In this case, diamond shapes appear between the X-like motifs, both of which have agricultural significance in the community. The X-like motifs represent rice mortars called lusong, while the diamond-like motifs depict rice grains (Respicio, 2014).
