RESEARCH DATA:

This wrap-around skirt, known as an aken, is a lower garment traditionally worn by Isnag women. It features narrow stripes in black, gray, and indigo and is worn below the knee. When in use, one corner is tucked beneath the top edge of the other, creating a dominant side of the skirt that allows for ease of movement. The panels are joined by bright red embroideries, which align with the horizontal orientation of the striped design.
