RESEARCH DATA:

Kinaw-it is a man’s hat commonly used in Tanulong and Fidelisan, Sagada, Mountain Province in Northern Luzon. It is constructed by coiling rattan strips, producing an intricate and fine basketry design. This hat is smaller but deeper than other basket hats in the Cordillera and only covers the back of its wearer’s head. In terms of function, it is used as a container or pocket for carrying small items such as matches, betel nuts, tobacco, and pipes. It is secured to the head by anchoring a string across the wearer’s forehead or within the wearer’s hairline (Bacdayan, 1998).
