RESEARCH DATA:

According to Capistrano-Baker (1998) the binekyeng is a sign of acceptability to one’s peers or of good moral standing. Hence, men who use the hat without meeting the requirements are scorned. The structure of hats varies from village to village. Some variations have a tuft of either horse or human hair attached to its top (Sagada variant), while others have completely different structures and techniques of construction.
