RESEARCH DATA:

A sayay is a long pouch worn from the neck and draped to one side of the hips (San Agustin, 2007). It is made of red plain-woven cotton and embellished with multicolored beads along both diagonal corners. The pouch is closed by tying the ends of these corners together. It is used to store personal effects such as betel nut and lime containers, among other items. Brass and silver metal rings of varying thickness and form are inserted into the sling. These rings may serve as indicators of the wearer’s social status.
