RESEARCH DATA:

The bahakat of the Isnag people from Apayao is a distinctive item used by women as a complementary belt or girdle to secure the aken or wrap-around skirt. Designed by Patis Tesoro, this particular Isnag belt is an innovative adaptation of the traditional bahakat. The embroidered elements on the textile are inspired by the kahamay, or centipede embroidery motif, of the Isnag people.
