RESEARCH DATA:

This hip bag from the collection is called an amba’yong or ambáyung. It features stripes composed of twill-woven patterns in orange outlined by yellow threads. These patterns resemble the hinulgi stripes (Lambrecht, 1958), which are composed of diamond motifs often seen in the amba’yong, and appear to be a variant of these stripes. Compared to pinuh’ha hip bags, the amba’yong is smaller in size, although both serve the same function of carrying personal effects.
