RESEARCH DATA:

Baskets play an essential role in many aspects of Igorot life, deeply intertwined with their daily routines. Some even play a role in the human experience from as early as infancy. This particular basket is designed to serve as a baby cradle, holding and containing the baby while they sleep or rest, providing a safe and secure space. Known as the indayon or indayunan, it is primarily made from rattan strips in a hexagonal weave design, with rattan loops serving as its rim and bottom, and rattan arcs serving as its handles. Both the rattan loops and rattan arcs provide the primary support and framing that allow the basket to maintain its shape and stability.
