RESEARCH DATA:

Worn by Bontoc women, this textile is a wakhes, or belt, used to support the hips and secure garments in place. It is the firmer, stiffer variant of the wakhes, making it suitable for everyday use. This type is also worn by mothers who had recently given birth (Gayagay, 2021). When in use, it is wound twice around the waist, with its fringes hanging at the back of the wearer (San Agustin, 2007).
