RESEARCH DATA:

Tobayan is an essential tool used in the creation and preparation of indame (yarns) for weaving. The traditional tobayan consists of two hardwood components: the libong and the shaft proper. The spindle is designed with a tapering point that facilitates easy twirling (tobay). The lower end also gradually decreases in thickness, culminating in an obtuse point, enabling the process of spinning (dumi'ing).

During the spinning process, a strand of cotton is held above the spindle by the person spinning, who gradually extends their arms while spinning. Using the fingers of the left hand, the spinner alternately twirls the spindle while meticulously regulating the thickness of the spinning thread (Lambrecht, 1958).
