RESEARCH DATA:

The blanket called pinagpagan serves as a blanket for both the living and the dead for the affluent in traditional Bontoc society. It features prominent mata-mata (eyes), inuweg (snake), and falfeg (spearhead) designs, among others. The depiction of a snake following a human is common, symbolizing good omens or luck for both the living relatives of the deceased (De Las Peñas and Salvador-Amores, 2016). Additionally, the identifying feature of the pinagpagan is the use of white and black colors at the center. The upper and lower panels are usually a combination of red and black. The pinagpagan is also similar to blankets from Ifugao and other areas in Mt. Province.
