RESEARCH DATA:

There is a wide variety of spice servers’ carving motifs in Ifugao, some are inspired by huge bowls used in daily and/or ritual activities. There are also instances in which the Ifugao’s prestige bench is used as inspiration for miniature carvings, such as this spice server from the collection. The miniature hagabi spice container is shared by members of the affluent class in Ifugao traditional society. They also are given as gifts to clan members.
