RESEARCH DATA:

Kambaya is a traditional textile among the Itneg people in Abra. It both refers to the technique and type of textile. The eagle which is also a motif in traditional Itneg textiles in brocade form can be also seen in other textiles. This particular textile in the collection is a three-paneled piningitan, or white wrap-around skirt for the women, however not used as a skirt but a form tapestry used in festive occasions. The original color of the textile was plain white and naturally dyed in indigo. This is embellished with the eagle through the kambaya, a technique of full embroidery on the textile.
