RESEARCH DATA:

Piña/pineapple fiber (Ananas comosus) is widely used in weaving to produce fine, translucent cloth for garments worn by both men and women, as well as for other textiles. This piece is a panel of piña cloth decorated with a stylized floral motif and silk leaves, woven in discontinuous supplementary weft (Araneta & Lim, 2014). The silk threads are dyed to create a gradient effect within the motifs.
