RESEARCH DATA:

This textile from the collection is a variation of the kambaya. Kambaya refers to the figurative embroidery found on the blanket. While some variants feature three indigo-dyed panels with red or maroon borders, staccato joinery, traditional embroidery motifs, and figurative designs, this particular piece consists of three panels of plain-woven white textile joined by simple stitching. It showcases figurative embroidery motifs of twelve brown eagles, one of which is depicted with two heads. A red, star-like motif is also embroidered on the upper middle section of the central panel.
