RESEARCH DATA:
This ikat blanket is an innovation by Patis Tesoro, a Filipina fashion designer. Utilizing the tie-dye technique and traditional patterns, she incorporated repetitive designs inspired by the ambayung (hip bag) from the Ifugao. The ambayung, a triangular hip bag, was customarily carried by the Ifugao and held by two brass coils serving as handles. It contained essential personal items such as betel nuts, amulets, and talismans. The inammbayung pattern, which is also used in traditional inlah’dang blankets—the blankets of the kadangyan, or affluent class—adds a layer of cultural significance to this contemporary creation (Martin et al., 2020, 124).
