RESEARCH DATA:

According to Maramba (1998), tinali is one of the most spectacular ornaments in Northern Luzon. The pieces in our collection are worn by affluent women in Kalinga and Gadang-speaking communities. The tinali is divided into two sections: the area with braided blue and black beads is called tapad, while the upper part, known as palusong, is made up of beads in shades of black, yellow, and terra cotta. The ornament was originally made with individual loops that were strung and fastened. The word tali means to knot. This is also fastened in buttons when they were introduced in Kalinga that made the tying controllable and at ease when worn.
