RESEARCH DATA:

The Ga’dang are renowned for their use of beads to embellish their textiles and bodies, adorning everything from headdresses to lower garments, as well as their heads, necks, and arms. This object from the collection is a headdress that can also be worn as a necklace, typically paired with other adornments such as earrings and beaded accessories. White beads form prominent borders and triangular shapes along the edges, while smaller, multi-colored beads are concentrated at the headdress’ focal point. Additionally, brown zigzag embroideries are stitched along the bands of the headdress using the same yarn found at the front, where both sides meet to form a cross-like design. The beads and embroideries are sewn onto a plain-woven red cotton base.
