Aside from colorful beads, bamboo and rattan are also primary materials used in making Cordillera ornaments, as exemplified by this bangle from the collection, made of bamboo strips. Bangles like this are from Ifugao and are called bekkal. The bekkal serves not only as an ornament but also as a symbolic object that signifies a woman’s widowed status in the community.
