Anthropomorphic carvings hold a significant role specifically on the cultural value of these ritual objects to the people of the Luzon Cordillera. Specifically, among the Ifugao, who are the most renowned for their elaborate wood carvings that reflects the complexity of their belief systems and traditional practices. For instance, the iconic bu’lul are anthropomorphic carvings that represents ancestral spirits and deities invoked during rituals. Most of the bu’lul are linked to rice cultivation, healing practices and thanksgiving rituals. The anthropomorphic carvings are revered and carefully to prevent misfortune. When positioned in the rice granaries, they serve to protect the harvested rice from malevolent spirits.
