RESEARCH DATA:

The oklob is made of bamboo strips and sewn together. Locusts are one of the primary pests in the rice-fields. It is a source of protein and one of the delicacies in the Cordillera. This type of basket is held under the trees growing near the terraces, and used to catch falling locusts when tree branches are shaken. The insects which fall to the ground are scooped up and deposited in the basket’s round opening, which is secured with a tightly woven lid. These large baskets provide sufficient air and space to keep the insects alive until the women return home to cook the evening meal.
