RESEARCH DATA:

Gibu or gubu is a fish trap set in the streams on the rice field found in the Ifugao rice terraces. The upper opening has sharp inner bamboo spikes that point inward and conically extend until the middle part of the trap; while the lower end could be closed using a lid. These traps are set with their mouths facing upstream so that fish will be carried into them by the current (Hamilton, 1998). Fish are attracted to shady corners, thus gubu baskets are sheltered from the sun with a bunch of leaves or grass, which help to form a shaded nook.
