RESEARCH DATA:
These sets consist of intricate wooden chess pieces meticulously carved by master artisans in Ifugao. Each piece represents traditional Ifugao images of elders, both men and women, who hold significant social positions within the community. The chess game could have been introduced in Ifugao and found its way to the woodcarving communities and rendered an Ifugao version. Examples of these chess sets can be found in Banaue, Ifugao, as well as in the wood carving village along Asin Road in Baguio City.
