Ga’dang, Mountain Province: Ulat

An orange, yellow, blue, and off-white striped blanket with four panels. Together with horizontal lines, it has patterns resembling crosses or diamonds. Threads in blue, orange, and yellow are used to embroider the selvages.

RESEARCH DATA:

This variation of ulat features an intricate design of minat-mata (eyes) and geometric figures among the Ga’dang of Mt. Province. The blanket is used every day and on ritual occasions. It is worn by both men and women, draped loosely over the shoulders, upper body, and arms, and sometimes also over the head during cold seasons.
